New Jersey Apartment Association Wins National Award for Best Membership Development Program

MONROE, NJ – The National Apartment Association (NAA) announced that the New Jersey Apartment Association (NJAA) has won its 2011 PARAGON Award for Membership Development. In 2010, NJAA fostered an increase of ten-thousand-units, totaling 170,148 owner member units and 10,200 municipal member units as well as a 33-vendor company member increase, totaling 357 vendor members.

"This is truly one of the great moments in the history of our association," says Jeff Smith, President of the New Jersey Apartment Association. "We are especially honored to receive the Paragon Award as we celebrate our 25th Anniversary year. In the United States, there are 41 state associations serving the multifamily industry. The fact that we lead the nation in growing membership speaks volumes to the dedication of our staff, and members."

The total number of NJAA member companies grew from 550 to 599 in 2010. NJAA increased Owner/Manager member numbers by 11 for a total of 237; vendor members by 33 for a total of 357; and municipal members by 2 for a total of 5. In addition to a traditional membership outreach approach employing brochures and phone calls, NJAA attributes its success to achievements in legislative and regulatory affairs, education and events, acknowledgment of industry leaders, public relations outreach, and charitable giving.

"A simple phone call will not always result in a new member. However, demonstrating NJAA’s dedication to the industry by being at the forefront of legislation in Trenton, offering certification courses and educational offerings that help companies grow, and by including members in ongoing discussions concerning our organization breed a familial environment that potential members wish to join," says Jean Maddalon, NJAA Executive Director.

NJAA will be recognized throughout the NAA’s Education Conference & Exposition being held in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay from June 23-25. The award winners will be honored at a Joint Board and Assembly Meeting on Wednesday, June 22nd.

The NAA PARAGON Awards recognize excellence and leadership in the rental housing industry. Specifically, they recognize the affiliated apartment associations, builders and industry professionals who make unique contributions to the industry.
