The NJAA met with BPU Commissioner Nicholas Asselta and his staff this week to follow-up on the Lt Governor's final Red Tape Report recommendation supporting the adoption of regulations to permit sub-metering of utilities in rental housing. Sub-metering is allowed in 49 other states and the inclusion of this recommendation in the Lt Governor's final report was a significant victory for the Apartment Association and our continued efforts to make New Jersey the 50th state to permit the introduction of this proven conservation technology.
The NJAA group included Board and Legislative/PAC Committee member John Cramner, Esq., of Archer & Greiner, as well as Conor Fennessy, VP - Government Affairs, and Nick Kikis, Director of Regulatory Affairs & Research. The NJAA has proposed two Board orders on sub-metering: one aimed at new construction of apartments, and a second to address retro-fitting current apartment buildings.
