Electrical Systems for Maintenance Professionals
Event Details

NJAA has partnered with Paul Hartz, F.W. Webb to deliver this hands-on instructional training focused on electrical fundamentals for multifamily maintenance professionals.
This course provides a practical introduction to residential and light commercial electrical systems, with a strong emphasis on safety, system awareness, and real-world decision-making in the field. Participants will learn how to recognize common electrical components, understand how basic systems operate, and determine when a repair can be handled in-house versus when a licensed electrician is required.
Throughout the session, attendees will build confidence working around electrical systems while exploring key concepts such as voltage, current, resistance, low-voltage versus high-voltage systems, and the basics of three-phase power commonly found in mechanical equipment. The training also reinforces critical safety practices, including proper use of testing tools and lockout/tagout procedures.
Please note: Continental breakfast will be provided to attendees.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
- Understand basic electrical theory, including voltage, current, and resistance
- Identify common electrical components such as breakers, panels, and junction boxes
- Differentiate between low-voltage and high-voltage systems
- Recognize three-phase systems commonly found in mechanical equipment
- Apply essential safety practices when working around electrical systems
Why You Should Attend
Electrical systems are at the core of nearly every multifamily property operation, and understanding how they function is essential for safe, efficient maintenance.
This session connects core electrical fundamentals to real-world property scenarios, helping participants strengthen their understanding of system operation, improve their ability to recognize key components, and gain clarity on when a repair can be safely handled in-house versus when it requires a licensed electrician.
Just as importantly, this training reinforces the safety practices that protect both staff and residents. From proper testing procedures to lockout/tagout protocols, attendees will leave with a stronger foundation for working safely and effectively around electrical systems commonly found in residential and light commercial properties.
Whether you’re building your skills or refreshing your knowledge, this course delivers practical, job-ready training that directly translates to day-to-day maintenance work.
