NJAA has partnered with Paul Hartz, F.W. Webb for this course that introduces the core components and operating principles of residential and light commercial HVAC systems commonly found in multifamily communities.

Participants will gain practical troubleshooting skills and learn how to identify common performance issues before they lead to system failure.

Please note: Continental breakfast will be provided to attendees.

Learning Objectives

Participants will learn how to:

  • Identify the major components of an HVAC system (compressor, condenser, evaporator, air handler, thermostats, etc.)
  • Understand the refrigeration cycle and how it impacts system performance
  • Recognize common HVAC maintenance issues in multifamily properties
  • Perform basic diagnostic checks and preventative maintenance procedures
  • Understand airflow basics and system efficiency considerations

Why You Should Attend

This is not a lecture-style overview—you’ll get real, hands-on experience working directly with HVAC systems and components used in multifamily communities. Participants will:

  • Examine and disassemble common HVAC components to understand how systems actually function
  • Practice identifying parts on working or demonstration units so you can confidently recognize issues in the field
  • Conduct basic troubleshooting exercises that mirror real on-the-job scenarios
  • Review proper filter changes, airflow checks, and routine maintenance procedures that help prevent costly system failures

This training is designed to build confidence, improve diagnostic skills, and give you practical techniques you can immediately apply at your property.
